Your e-bike is an investment. These maintenance habits will protect it:
Battery Care
- Charge after every ride, don't let it drop below 20%
- Avoid charging in direct sunlight or extreme heat
- Store between 40–80% if not using for more than 2 weeks
- Expect 500–800 charge cycles before capacity drops significantly
Chain & Drivetrain
- Lubricate the chain every 200–300km or after riding in rain
- Use a dry lubricant in harmattan season, wet lubricant in rainy season
- Clean the drivetrain monthly with a degreaser
Tires
- Check pressure weekly — under-inflated tires drain your battery faster
- Inspect for wear, especially after riding rough roads
- Consider upgrading to puncture-resistant tires if you ride on laterite roads
Brake Pads
- Test brakes before every ride
- Replace pads when you hear squealing or feel reduced stopping power
After Rain or Dusty Rides
- Wipe down the frame, especially around connectors
- Dry the motor housing with a cloth — do not use a pressure washer
- Check and re-tighten bolts that may have vibrated loose
Follow these habits and your e-bike will serve you for 5+ years.
